چکیده

Systems of rst-order theory change are motivated, developed, and shown to be strongly connected to revisable systems of dynamic semantics. Such systems are applicable in the analysis of dialogue contributions in a full account of information exchange. They remedy the following problem; \our approach to information change is eliminative rather than constructive. And we don't know yet how to do better than that." A full theory of communication must incorporate the pragmatics of belief integration (or information change) in dialogue. Systems of theory change (TC) or \belief revision" ((Fuhrmann, 1994, GG ardenfors, 1986]) invoke transformations over sets of sentences (syntactic structures) expressed in propositional logic (the \AGM" approach). In contrast, systems of dynamic semantics (DS) typically employ transformations over sets of possibilities (semantical structures) of rst-order complexity. Cognitively relevant information processing is often argued to have at least the complexity of rst-order logic. Accordingly, predicates and variables are distinguished in the processing of information in natural language interpretation. In order to meet the demands of a model of communication , systems of theory change and their associated dynamic semantics must operate over structures expressed in rst-order logic.) has been connned to the dynamics of propositional systems. The paper is organized as follows. Intuitions are given about a set of rst-order rationality postulates for contraction, covering quantiiers, names, variables, and identity. Some of the intuitions are formalized. Following this, a family of systems for rst-order theory change (FOTC) are sketched, along with their

Functorial semantics of topological theories

Following the categorical approach to universal algebra through algebraic theories, proposed by F.~W.~Lawvere in his PhD thesis, this paper aims at introducing a similar setting for general topology. The cornerstone of the new framework is the notion of emph{categorically-algebraic} (emph{catalg}) emph{topological theory}, whose models induce a category of topological structures. We introduce t...

A duality between LM-fuzzy possibility computations and their logical semantics

Let X be a dcpo and let L be a complete lattice. The family σL(X) of all Scott continuous mappings from X to L is a complete lattice under pointwise order, we call it the L-fuzzy Scott structure on X. Let E be a dcpo. A mapping g : σL(E) −> M is called an LM-fuzzy possibility valuation of E if it preserves arbitrary unions. Denote by πLM(E) the set of all LM-fuzzy possibility valuations of E. T...

Dynamic Categorization of Semantics of Fashion Language: A Memetic Approach

Categories are not invariant. This paper attempts to explore the dynamic nature of semantic category, in particular, that of fashion language, based on the cognitive theory of Dawkins’ memetics, a new theory of cultural evolution. Semantic attributes of linguistic memes decrease or proliferate in replication and spreading, which involves a dynamic development of semantic category. More specific...

Response Determination of a Beam with Moderately Large Deflection Under Transverse Dynamic Load Using First Order Shear Deformation Theory

In the presented paper, the governing equations of a vibratory beam with moderately large deflection are derived using the first order shear deformation theory. The beam is homogenous, isotropic and it is subjected to the dynamic transverse and axial loads. The kinematic of the problem is according to the Von-Karman strain-displacement relations and the Hook's law is used as the constitutive eq...

Action Theory Evolution

Like any other logical theory, domain descriptions in reasoning about actions may evolve, and thus need revision methods to adequately accommodate new information about the behavior of actions. The present work is about changing action domain descriptions in propositional dynamic logic. Its contribution is threefold: first we revisit the semantics of action theory contraction that has been done...
